Top Winter Caravanning Tips
Posted on January 24, 2013
For you avid caravanners the winter won’t keep you at home, even with the Artic conditions we are currently suffering through! And with the UK providing a beautiful, glittering white landscape now could be the perfect time to hitch up the caravan and head off.
So you’re bags are packed and your satnav has planned the route but do you have everything you need for a relaxing winter break in your caravan? Check out these top tips from the experts at The Caravan Company:
• Weather: Before you embark on a journey you should always check the weather forecast and check there are no severe weather warnings where you are heading or on route. You should also check what the weather has in store for the rest of your stay, the more prepared you are the better.
• Clothing and blankets: It’s going to be cold so make sure you have plenty of warm clothes for while you’re out and about and take blankets for the caravan so you can snuggle up in the evenings.
• Stock up on essentials: Make sure you have plenty of gas, you may well use extra during the winter months, try to use propane gas as this is most suited to cold weather. Take a low wattage heater with you to take the chill off but don’t leave it on all night. Make sure you take plenty of bedding with you including duvets with high tog ratings.
• Prepare your car: Make sure your car is as ready as your caravan – after all it has to get you there and back. You might want to consider changing to winter tyres on your car and taking snow chains with you. Make sure your car is equipped with ice scrapers, a shovel, blankets and a fully charged mobile phone. It’s also a good idea to take a flask of tea or coffee and some food just in case you do get stuck in traffic or snow.
Once you have everything you need for a successful winter break, load up the car and caravan and away you go!
