Caravan Insurance – What You Need to Know
Posted on April 15, 2013
The first thing you need to know about caravan insurance is that you’re not actually legally required to have it. However, with over 2,000 caravans being stolen each year it’s highly recommended that you insure your caravan against theft, loss and damage. Here are some things you should consider when looking to buy a caravan or insuring your current one:
How Can I Reduce My Premium?
Just like with your car, there are several things you can do to keep your insurance premium low. Up your caravan security by adding features such as:
• Hitch lock and wheel lock
• Tracking system
• Corner steady locks
Another thing you should consider is discounts, many insurers will offer an extra discount if you’re a member of the Caravan Club or the Caravan and Camping Club.
Where you store your caravan can have a big impact on the price of your insurance premium. If your caravan is stored in a registered storage site with high security your premium could be much lower than if you kept it on your driveway.
Travelling in the UK or Oversees
If you’re planning on holidaying abroad in your caravan you need to ensure your caravan insurance policy covers this. Some will cover you for a certain number of days or weeks so it’s always best to check before you head off.
